Our ACM30122 Certificate III in Animal Care Services (Animal Care) is designed to cover most of the first year of the ACM40418 Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. If you are not currently working in a veterinary clinic but are committed to pursuing a career as a veterinary nurse, this course is the ideal starting point.

Therefore, if you are not currently working in a veterinary clinic but are committed to pursuing a career as a veterinary nurse, this course is the ideal starting point.

The course is also suitable for a broad range of other roles in a variety of animal care facilities that include boarding, doggy day care, breeding, shelters, animal holding centres, pet grooming, pet sitting and other animal businesses.

Course Duration

Our ACM30122 Certificate III in Animal Care Services (Animal Care) is designed to deliver the practical skills and knowledge required you need to start your career as a Veterinary Nurse

If you are not currently working in a veterinary clinic but are committed to pursuing a career as a veterinary nurse, this course is the ideal starting point.

AACI expects that on average, students will have a study load of 16 hours per week to complete this ACM30122 Certificate III in Animal Care Services (Animal Care).

If you spend less than 16 hours per week then the 1 year course duration will be adjusted accordingly. This recommendation is for students new to the animal care industry with little prior animal care experience. 

Entry Requirement

Direct entry is available to our Certificate II in Animal Care if you are.

  • 18* years of age, AND
  • Applicants are expected to have literacy and numeracy skills at Year 10 OR
  • Successfully complete an LLND assessment (see below) OR
  • Have a Certificate II qualification or higher

All Students are required to have access to a computer, MS word and the internet

You are not required to complete any work placement in a VET Clinic or have minimum work experience hours, but AACI recommends you undertake any opportunity to gain work experience.  

 

*AACI shall allow students under 18 years of age to enroll in a qualification if they are turning 18 during the duration of the course, do not attend school and a parent or guardians have consented to enrolment (In certain circumstance).

This Fast Tracks you towards becoming an Australian qualified veterinary nurse and a Register Veterinary Nurse with Australian Veterinary Council of Australia (AVNAT).

To successfully achieve competency in this qualification, students will be required to satisfactorily complete the Assessment Tasks contained in both of the Assessment Booklets for each unit in the course. 

These Tasks are referenced in the Learner Resources and detailed in our Theory Assessment Booklet and Practical Assessment Booklet that include questioning, demonstrations including

Observation Checklists and Workplace practice tasks.

ACCI recommends that students enrolled in this course perform at least 100 hours of work placement in a real animal care facility.

Please note that work experience can be undertaken

  • on a be volunteer (unpaid basis) or a paid employed basis
  • at a veterinary clinic or veterinary hospital or other animal care facility
